Elizabeth “Liz” Burns

Caribbean /Jamaican, immigrated several years ago in the pursuit of a more rewarding life for her husband & children. Elizabeth has made South Broward her home for 45 years of which approx. 25 years have been in Pembroke Pines. Blessed with 2 daughters and 2 grand-daughters and who are receiving their education from the Broward School system.

Elizabeth Burns began her career in South Florida as an Account Analyst; she later became the Data Processing Manager & Systems Security Officer, consecutively, at two leading International Banks in South Florida. Elizabeth held one of those positions for over 10 years. She is privileged to have been the first Jamaican and the first female to be employed by those leading International Banks at that time.

Subsequently Elizabeth became an entrepreneur and started her own business, providing excellent and impeccable service as a premier event planner/producer and decorator for weddings, corporate events, banquets and other such events.

Elizabeth is the producer of Annual Community Events in recognition of National Caribbean American Heritage Month. They are, the CariFusion Festival formerly Caribbean American Exhibition and Festival, a cultural event which showcases many local and talented artistes leading them to booking opportunities. In addition the event provides a platform for several small and midsize businesses to showcase their products and services.

Elizabeth also produces the “Unique CAHM and CULTURE Awards”, this event recognizes individuals with Caribbean roots, a spin-off to that event is the “Friends of the Caribbean Award”, which is presented to American Individuals and companies who have supported and impacted the Caribbean American Community. Starting in 2021 we have added a new category-The President’s Award, honoring someone who has gone above and beyond in support of others. We also added the Lifetime Achievement Award which is given to someone or company that has served their community for numerous years and has gone beyond the norm.

Elizabeth produces the Annual “Expressions” Caribbean American Magazine, a beautiful printed publication with an online presence. It gives a birds eye view of the Caribbean, its people, food and culture, A great platform to feature/promote local Businesses. A former producer of the Caribbean American Connection, a monthly networking group that engages businesses and entrepreneurs.

Elizabeth has received numerous Proclamations, Awards, and Messages from the City of Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Broward County, & City Officials.

Civic Responsibilities:

• Former vice president and member of the Jamaica United Relief Association for over 25 years. During this period Elizabeth was the recipient of awards from the Association for her Outstanding Contribution and Dedication to the Organization.
• Elizabeth is currently a Board Member of Lauderhill Sister Cities International.
• A member of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce. Throughout the years Elizabeth has been providing decorating and setup services for the organization. A recipient of one of the 50 outstanding Jamaican Business Achievers in FL. Also in 2017 Elizabeth was recognized with the Jamaican Milestone Award for Professional Service Excellence.
• The City Of Pembroke Pines, Florida – Current Member, Past Chair and Vice Chair for the Diversity and Heritage Advisory Board since 2020.
• The City of Pembroke Pines, Florida – Current Vice Chair for the Diversity and Heritage Advisory Board since 2021 to present.
• Influential in the recognition/celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. In the City of Pembroke Pines.
